Play Reversi online with cats and pups
Nap & Yap is a free online version of Reversi, the classic strategy board game also known as Othello. Every piece is a sleepy cat on one side and a yappy pup on the other. Trap a line of the other team and they all wake up on your side with a meow or a woof.
Play against the computer at three levels, or send a friend a link and play together in real time. There's nothing to download and no account to make, and it works on phones, tablets and computers.
How to play Reversi
- The game starts with two cats and two pups in the middle of an 8×8 quilt. Cats move first.
- On your turn, place a pet next to the other team so that a straight line of their pets (across, down or diagonal) is sandwiched between your new pet and one you already have.
- Every pet in that line flips over and joins your team. One move can flip several lines at once.
- If you can't make a move, you pass. The game ends when neither side can move.
- The team with the most pets on the board wins.
Tips to win at Reversi
- Take the corners. A pet on a corner cushion can never be flipped back.
- Avoid the squares next to an empty corner. They tend to hand the corner to your opponent.
- Don't grab too many pets early. Having more moves available matters more than having more pets in the middle of the game.
- Edges are strong, but only when they're safe. A pet on the edge is harder to flip.
Questions
- Is Nap & Yap free?
- Yes. It's free to play, with no ads and no sign-up.
- Is this the same as Othello?
- It uses the standard Reversi rules that Othello is based on: an 8×8 board, four pieces to start, and flipping by sandwiching lines.
- Can I play against the computer?
- Yes. Easy is a playful beginner, Normal thinks a move ahead, and Expert plans deep and plays the endgame perfectly.
- How do I play with a friend?
- Choose "Play a friend" to get a link. When your friend opens it, they take the other side.
